After gaining some recognition on Wall Street, cryptocurrencies have attracted the interest of asset rating agencies.

Last week, Florida-based Weiss Ratings released a report that assigned grades to dozens of cryptocurrencies based on a number of metrics, like risk, technological innovation, and other fundamentals.

There were a couple of surprises to the report. One of them was that none of the cryptocurrencies rated received an &a;ldquo;A.&a;rdquo; Another surprise was that Ethereum received a higher grade than Bitcoin and Ripple.

Top Second-Half MLB Price Gainers and Losers

Here aresome data on which teams are seeing the biggest price increases and decreases for the second half of the season compared to the first half of the season. See theraw data on all MLB teamsand check out the TicketIQMLB page.

Gainers:

Not surprisingly, the Red Sox have seen the largest price increase compared to the first half of the season, which is no surprise given their record, which is the best in Major League Baseball. With their surge to claim first place in the NL Central, the Cubs are tied with the surprise Brewers, who had 5 players in mid summer’s classic, for the second highest increase. Despite losing Robinson Cano for a substance abuse violation, the Mariners continue to compete, which has driven up prices at Safeco field.

Losers:

While the decrease in price for the last place Rangers is not a surprise, the decrease in the Astros average prices may be. Coming off of their first-ever World Series win, enthusiasm and demand for Astros tickets for the first half of the season were at historic highs. With their team back in first place, Astros fans may also be saving their money for the post season.

After starting the season with high expectations, the Mets price decline should come as no surprise. If they continue to falter and end up trading All Star Jacob deGrom prices could fall even more. Both the Rockies and Padres declines are small enough to not be meaningful. If the Rockies continue to play well, prices could rise into October.

The bear case for stocks is so obvious, it cant be right

Stocks look on track for a rally Thursday because... trade-war fears are abating again?

Some analysts are in fact attributing the green on your screen to a report saying the U.S. and China are talking about talking things out.

It may be time to just throw up your hands and buy em, suggests our call of the day, which comes from Kevin Muir, writing for The Macro Tourist.

Every bone in my body wants to sell this market, he writes, but that bearish trade is so obvious, it cant be right.

Everyone seems to be bearish, and the investor in me agrees 100% with the skeptics who worry we are late-cycle and that risks are rising, says Muir, who is a market strategist at East West Investment Management.

But the trader in me is even more concerned that everyone is already positioned for this outcome, he adds.

Markets often go where they will hurt the most and make the majority look foolish. That path is higher not lower.

The proverbial wall of worry just keeps growing and giving the market more fuel to rise, he says.

Ten Reasons Why I'm Attending The Upcoming National Sports Collectors Convention In Cleveland

&l;p&g;&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5416&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/07/2018_National_Sports_Collectors_Convention_Autograph_Signers__1531232313_54617.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;548&q; data-width=&q;660&q;&g; A selection of the autograph stars who will be appearing at the National includes Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie), Johnny Bench (top), and Cal Ripken (bottom).

&l;/p&g;&l;p class=&q;p1&q;&g;On August 1, the doors will open to the mother of all sports card shows, &l;a href=&q;http://nsccshow.com/&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s2&q;&g;The National Sports Collectors Convention&l;/span&g;&l;/a&g;, for the 39th consecutive year.&l;/p&g;

&l;p class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;The 400,000 square foot I-X Center near the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will host more than 750 big-time exhibitor booths from across the country.&l;/span&g;&l;/p&g;

&l;p class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&a;ldquo;The National has grown into a once a year extravaganza that is the premier showcase event of the multi-billion dollar collectibles industry,&a;rdquo; declares the convention&a;rsquo;s promoters. &a;ldquo;It&a;rsquo;s been said, &a;lsquo;if you can&a;rsquo;t find what you&a;rsquo;re looking for at the National, it probably doesn&a;rsquo;t exist.&a;rsquo;&a;rdquo; &l;/span&g;&l;/p&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5428&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/07/evanscase05_11410__1520352136_51399.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;1280&q; data-width=&q;960&q;&g; Evan Mathis&s; case at last year&s;s National included his $2.88 million Mantle. Note his Super Bowl ring.

&l;p class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;As usual, Rich Mueller, the editor of Sports Collectors Daily, provides the best guide to the National. &l;a href=&q;https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/2018-national-sports-collectors-convention-info/&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s2&q;&g;Check out his story&l;/span&g;&l;/a&g; for the show hours, ticket prices, autograph line-ups, and other vital information.&l;/span&g;&l;/p&g;

&l;p class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;This will be the fifth consecutive National I&a;rsquo;ve attended since I began writing for &l;i&g;Forbes&l;/i&g; and I&a;rsquo;ve loved every minute I&a;rsquo;ve spent there&a;mdash; not just as a reporter, but as a buyer and a seller. In fact, each time I&a;rsquo;ve stayed for all five days.&l;/span&g;&l;/p&g;

&l;p class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;Here&a;rsquo;s what I&a;rsquo;m looking forward to:&l;/span&g;&l;/p&g;

&l;ol&g;&l;li&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Making new friends.&l;/b&g; At every show I&a;rsquo;ve discovered new niches of collecting. Last year I was introduced to the exotic world of late 1880s Old Judge Cards by baseball historians, Richard Masson and Jay Miller, who produced &l;a href=&q;https://www.amazon.com/Photographic-Baseball-Goodwin-Company-1886-1890/dp/B006F4FC3U&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s2&q;&g;a brilliant book&l;/span&g;&l;/a&g; about the set and baseball&a;rsquo;s earliest era.&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-4979&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/03/reawhitney__1521651433_38322.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;1052&q; data-width=&q;660&q;&g; 1887 Old Judge with the dog, Midget, and ball player, Art Whitney, is one of the most popular baseball cards of all time.&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Making a Score&l;/b&g;. At every show I&a;rsquo;ve made a profitable buy, almost always of the esoteric memorabilia I dabble in. A few years ago, I paid $80 for a near-mint 1960s Rawlings Mickey Mantle glove, which I later flipped for $450; thus paying for my plane flight from NYC.&l;/span&g;&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Buying Cards for Profit&l;/b&g;. The National has almost every card at every price. In recent years, I&a;rsquo;ve bought two iconic cards, a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle and a 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson, both affordable because they were in good (not mint) condition. I sold them quickly for a few hundred dollars at a smaller show in White Plains, NY where no other dealers had them at my price.&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5426&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/07/robinssonleaf__1531233963_63643-2.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;799&q; data-width=&q;660&q;&g; A 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson.&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;On-Site Authentication.&l;/b&g; &l;span class=&q;s2&q;&g;&l;a href=&q;https://www.psacard.com/&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;PSA&l;/a&g;,&a;nbsp;&l;/span&g;&l;span class=&q;s2&q;&g;&l;a href=&q;https://www.sgccard.com/&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;SGC&l;/a&g;, and &l;a href=&q;https://www.beckett.com/news/2018-national-sports-collectors-convention-autograph-signers/&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;Beckett&l;/a&g;&l;/span&g;&a;nbsp;(including Steve Grad from the &l;em&g;Pawn Stars&l;/em&g; TV show) will both be taking submissions for grading, autograph certification, and encapsulation, saving collectors postage money and the hassle of waiting weeks for their cards and autographs to be mailed back. &a;ldquo;Be prepared to wait a bit, but submitting in person means you&a;rsquo;ll have someone to help you if you need it,&a;rdquo; Mueller writes. &a;ldquo;The same goes for autographed memorabilia. Submit early enough and pay the proper fees, and you might be able to take your item(s) home with you.&a;rdquo;&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5351&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/06/boyholdingwagner-e1530282647975.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;1209&q; data-width=&q;956&q;&g; At the National Sports Collectors Convention in 2016, Goldin Auctions let boys pose with the $3.12 million Honus Wagner card.&l;/li&g;

You sure can&a;rsquo;t do that in Cooperstown.&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5417&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/07/PSAPrizes__1531232358_97443.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;736&q; data-width=&q;660&q;&g; PSA&s;s Sweepstake prizes.&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Free Swag. &l;/b&g;From new sports card samples to flashy wrist bands, you can leave the National with quite a haul. Suffice to say, I haven&a;rsquo;t needed to buy a pen in many, many years. PSA, the top grading company, will be giving away PSA caps, t-shirts, and common PSA-graded cards. PSA is also offering more than $6,000 worth of sweepstake prizes. You can enter &l;a href=&q;https://www.psacard.com/National&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s3&q;&g;online&l;/span&g;&l;/a&g; or at the show for: &a;ldquo;a 1949 Bowman #27 Bob Feller card, PSA Near Mint-Mint 8, valued at $500; a PSA-authenticated LeBron James signed basketball from Upper Deck Authenticated, valued at $2,000; and a pristinely centered 1958 Topps #62 Jim Brown rookie card, graded PSA Near Mint 7, valued at $4,000.&a;rdquo;&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5418&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/07/evanholdingcard.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;1500&q; data-width=&q;960&q;&g; Mathis holding his mint &s;52 Mantle he would later sell for $2.88 million.&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Evan Mathis.&l;/b&g; The Super Bowl champion and two-time Pro Bowler is &l;a href=&q;http://www.selltoevan.com/&q; target=&q;_blank&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s3&q;&g;a superstar in the sports collectibles industry &l;/span&g;&l;/a&g;&l;/span&g;&l;span class=&q;s2&q;&g;&l;b&g; &l;/b&g;&l;/span&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;since flipping his mint 1952 Topps Mantle for $2.88 million in April, making it the second most valuable baseball card in history after a $3.12 million Honus Wagner card. &a;ldquo;We&a;rsquo;ll have a wide variety of graded cards covering the 1800s until today,&a;rdquo; Mathis told me. &a;ldquo;I&a;rsquo;ll be doing a lot of buying as well and my wife will be handing the booth if I&a;rsquo;m out on the floor looking for stuff. If anyone will be in the area and wants to sell their collection or inventory, I&a;rsquo;m available at Evan@Cardology.com. There&a;rsquo;s nothing too small and nothing too large for us. I&a;rsquo;ll have my Super Bowl ring and my 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 10 on display.&a;rdquo;&l;/span&g;&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Supplies. &l;/b&g;Whether it&a;rsquo;s a case for an oversized pin or a scarce tube for a mini-bat, you can buy it at the National, and cheaply. I&a;rsquo;m bringing a 1960s Shea Stadium security badge to obtain a nice house for it.&l;/span&g;&l;/span&g;

&l;img class=&q;size-full wp-image-5422&q; src=&q;http://blogs-images.forbes.com/davidseideman/files/2018/07/https_2F2Fblogs-images.forbes.com2Fdavidseideman2Ffiles2F20152F082Ftot-on-phone-resized-2.jpg?width=960&q; alt=&q;&q; data-height=&q;1152&q; data-width=&q;960&q;&g; Young wheeler and dealer in the Topps pavilion at the 2016 National.&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Family Fun. &l;/b&g;These days it&a;rsquo;s hard to find entertainment to please the whole family. At the National, you&a;rsquo;ll see happy grandparents, parents, and their children and grandchildren. And it might surprise you that the young boys and girls are as interested in holding an iconic Honus Wagner card as they are in ripping open modern card packs filled with today&a;rsquo;s stars. And there&a;rsquo;s not a trace of snobbery at the National. Hedge fund gazillionaires dropping tens of thousands of dollars mingle with constructor workers husbanding their $20 bills. &l;/span&g;&l;/li&g;

&l;li class=&q;p1&q;&g;&l;span class=&q;s1&q;&g;&l;b&g;Great Food. &l;/b&g;Just kidding! The National&a;rsquo;s industrial concession fare doesn&a;rsquo;t come close to the grub at your average major league ball park. Pack healthy snacks like nuts and fruit.&l;/span&g;&l;/li&g;

Financial Elder Abuse: The Dark Side Of Aging And Finances

&l;p&g;&a;nbsp;

&l;img class=&q;dam-image shutterstock size-large wp-image-1031503114&q; src=&q;https://specials-images.forbesimg.com/dam/imageserve/1031503114/960x0.jpg?fit=scale&q; data-height=&q;640&q; data-width=&q;960&q;&g; Shutterstock

Although massively underreported, financial exploitation is increasingly becoming a rampant form of abuse among aging adults, particularly those with cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer&a;rsquo;s disease or other types of dementia. These crimes are now so widespread that elderly financial abuse is often called &a;ldquo;the crime of the twenty-first century.&a;rdquo; According to the National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA), one in nine seniors has reported being abused, neglected or exploited within the last year, and one in twenty seniors has indicated some form of perceived financial mistreatment.

Unfortunately, most abusers are close friends, acquaintances, or family members who take advantage of situations of cognitive decline and diminished capacity; in fact, NAPSA reports that 90 percent of abusers are family members or trusted others. Financial abuse can take many forms, from soliciting for fake charities to telemarketing scams and identity theft. If you have elderly family members, understanding the warning signs of financial elder abuse and how to prevent it can help protect your loved ones from falling victim to these crimes.

&l;strong&g;Who is at risk for financial elder abuse?&l;/strong&g;

Elderly people who live in social isolation, need help with the activities of daily living, or are experiencing declining mental or physical health are typically most vulnerable to financial elder abuse. According to a 2011 Study of Financial Elder Abuse by Metlife, women are more likely to be victims of elder abuse than men, and most victims of financial exploitation are between the ages of 80 and 89. However, men and women of all races, economic status, and health levels are at risk.

&l;strong&g;What are the warning signs of financial exploitation? &l;/strong&g;

The National Center on Elderly Abuse defines financial or material exploitation as the illegal or improper use of an elder&a;rsquo;s funds, property or assets. Common signs of financial exploitation may include:

&l;/p&g;&l;ul&g;&l;li&g;Unexpected changes in bank account balances or banking practices&l;/li&g;

&l;li&g;Allowing a new friend or trusted acquaintance to make decisions on the elderly person&a;rsquo;s behalf&l;/li&g;

&l;li&g;Unauthorized or unexplained financial account withdrawals&l;/li&g;

&l;li&g;Disappearance of funds or valuable possessions&l;/li&g;

&l;li&g;Unanticipated transfer of assets to a family member or friend&l;/li&g;

&l;li&g;Sudden changes to a will or other important financial documents&l;/li&g;

&l;/ul&g;

In addition to financial consequences, elder abuse can also have emotional effects such as depression, irritability, withdrawal from normal activities or strained relationships&a;mdash;warning signs easy to dismiss in aging individuals with declining health.

&l;!--nextpage--&g; &l;strong&g;What can you do to prevent financial elder abuse? &l;/strong&g;

While it&a;rsquo;s important to understand the signs of elder abuse, it may be more productive to take steps to prevent abuse from occurring in the first place. Before these warning signs appear, one of the best safeguards against financial elder abuse is to create a strong support system to keep an eye on elderly family members and loved ones. A family conversation&a;mdash;or, more likely, a series of conversations over time&a;mdash;can help you gain insight into your loved one&a;rsquo;s affairs and mental state.

However, if you recognize warning signs or suspect someone you know is being exploited, addressing the issue immediately, whether that means getting the proper authorities involved or confronting the abuser directly, is often the best way to prevent additional abuse. If you are concerned that an elderly family member may have been the victim of fraud or other abuse, ask him or her directly. One of the reasons elder abuse is underreported is that well-meaning onlookers are afraid to act unless they&a;rsquo;re certain that abuse is occurring.
